United Nations Development Assistance Framework for Belarus for 2011 – 2015 signed

The UNDAF is the first joint strategy of the UN agencies active in Belarus that was prepared in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Belarus and national partners. The framework supports the country’s national priorities and promotes the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as well as compliance with other international commitments in the field of development, theun.by reported.

“This first United Nations Development Assistance Framework for the Republic of Belarus will become a solid platform for our further productive activities,” confidently said the Minister of Economy Nikolai Snopkov during his speech at the signing ceremony.

The framework for 2011 – 2015 consists of 5 thematic areas for cooperation: assistance for ensuring sustainable social and economic development; assistance for strengthening national health care system; assistance for ensuring environmental sustainability; assistance for developing national migration management in line with international standards; assistance for ensuring environmental sustainability.

The signing ceremony and press–conference were attended by Mr. Antonius Broek, the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Belarus, Mr. Nikolai Snopkov, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, heads of UN agencies in Belarus, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
