Stavros Lambrinidis
MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) - EU Special Representative for Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis plans to pay a working visit to Belarus on 9-11 March, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On 10 March Stavros Lambrinidis is expected to take part in the UNDP international conference “Capital Punishment: Overcoming Disagreements” organized in cooperation with the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The EU official is also set to hold meetings in the parliament and ministries of Belarus.
“The visit of the EU Special Representative for Human Rights is organized for the first time to promote further development of the dialogue on human rights between Belarus and the European Union which was renewed in July 2015,” the press service noted.
The post of the EU Special Representative for Human Rights was instituted in 2012. His major task is to enhance efficiency and external presentation of the EU human rights policy. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Stavros Lambrinidis was appointed to the post in 2012.
