MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Mikhail Shemetov of Belarus finished 5th in the men's individual pursuit at the ongoing 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in London, BelTA informs.
The Belarusian clocked 4:19.017 in the qualifying round. This result is a national record in the men's 4km individual pursuit. The previous record (4:20.771) was also set by Mikhail Shemetov a week earlier in Russia. Australia's Jack Bobridge holds the world record in the discipline, which is 4:10.534.
In the qualifying Mikhail Shemetov finished 0.73 seconds behind fourth-placed Andy Tennant of the UK. The British later claimed bronze with a time of 4:18.301. Gold went to Filippo Ganna of Italy (4:16.141). Silver was collected by Germany's Domenic (4:18.275).
