President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated about his readiness to resort to the military forces for preventing attempts to overthrow the constitutional order. However, the head of state stressed that he would take such measures only in exceptional cases. This statement was made by the Belarusian leader during a visit to the Second Engineer Brigade of the armed forces on February 21, the BelTA informs.
At the same time, the president said that the security system of Belarus "has stood the test of strength, confirmed the validity of the previous decisions, showed the world how to defend national interests and stay away from the chaos of coups d'etat."
"Foreign policy vector to insure national security is now getting to the forefront along with the economy issues, which was clearly showed by the election campaign in our country. The events of December 19 reconfirmed that conspiracy had been organized against our country," said Alexander Lukashenko.
According to him, "it was sponsored by foreign secret services, while the part of performers was assigned to local political "leaders," whose intense activity (supposedly for the benefit of Belarus) was unknown to the very people, and both you, knowledgeable military men, and me couldn't even think that our "leaders" would go so far."
"Although I was ready for any outcomes, as well as the police and the military were. And what if we were not ready? We would have been unable to meet here. It seems there were no signs for this to happen. It proves again that we are right to be ready for any situation. This is a purely military lesson," the head of state.
As the Belarusian leader said, most of the money for the Belarusian opposition had come from Germany and Poland, "and it is known for sure." According to Alexander Lukashenko, these are "real facts, based on documents and testimony of organizers." However, despite the outside pressure, "we defended the constitutional order, prosperity and independence of Belarus," while the Belarusians were sympathetic to the government's actions," said President of Belarus.
The Head of State also touched upon the coup in Egypt and stressed that the army had saved the country from the bloodshed.
"Take Egypt with 80 million people. Was it 80 million people that revolted? There wasn't a million; a figure of around 100 thousand people was mentioned. Even with 100 thousand people against the 80 millionth population of Egypt it would not make a significant percentage." - Turned the country upside down. And only the calm actions of the Army saved the situation there from the bloodshed - its outcome is still unknown," said the Belarusian leader.
According to Alexander Lukashenko, one should not stop at anything to protect the independence of the country; it's not about the power of a single person, and "thank God, we did not have to use armed forces" on December 19.
"If lost, find the courage to admit it. Now we are under pressure, threatened by some economic sanctions. And I want to respond: if someone wants to repeat Chechnya in Belarus - it's not a problem, but will be much more complicated, than in Chechnya. I think, no one needs it," said President of Belarus.
"We'll protect our land and the territory with all the means and resources available. If someone wants to try an economic war after the information pressure on Belarus - it will cost them a lot. We will not leave our land," head of state added.
