MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – An agreement between Belarus and Venezuela on legal assistance in criminal investigation has taken effect, BelTA learnt from the Justice Ministry.
The document was signed in Minsk on 16 October 2010. According to the ministry, the agreement will promote more efficient cooperation between the two countries in crime prevention, especially in the light of its new forms and manifestations.
The document envisages legal assistance that lays down a foundation for mutual cooperation in conducting inquiries. It includes transfer of documents, material evidence, articles and monetary resources gained from the crime. The above listed, if needed, will be conducted by the central and competent bodies of Belarus and Venezuela.
The Justice Ministry added that the agreement, as all similar documents, provides for common principles of the criminal procedure law. In particular, it includes presumption of innocence as well as impossibility of bearing criminal liability twice for the same crime.
