MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – A big Czech company will invest around €50 million in a project to build a transport and logistics center at Vitebsk Airport, the head of the department for strategic development, coordination and investment in transport systems of the Ministry of Transport and Communications Pavel Bozhanov, told a press conference.
Pavel Bozhanov explained that the project stipulates the construction of warehouses, service area, creation of an air company at Vitebsk Airport and an aircraft maintenance center. “An investment contract with the Czech investor was signed in June. It provides for the Vitebsk Airport infrastructure development and construction of the transport and logistics center,” Pavel Bozhanov.
He also touched upon the project to build a major multi-modal transport and logistics center at the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant. Negotiations are underway with several investors. According to Pavel Bozhanov, a Hong Kong company is showing interest in operating the runway located near the plant for cargo aircraft from China.
“The project has already been presented. Traffic flows and infrastructure improvements have been estimated. At the same time the Chinese company does not talk about investing in the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant itself,” he said. In this respect the talks have been also held with another investor from Belarus who is interested in the development of the plant.
“This year we have found an investor who is interested in an upgrade and further development of the plant,” Pavel Bozhanov added. At the same time he has not specified the volume of investment planned for the project. “It is early to talk about concrete figures while negotiations are in progress,” he said. The official noted that although the Orsha plant has a considerable capacity, the demand for its services is still low. In this respect new ways to develop the plant are currently considered.
