Drunken Belorusian Tried to "Hitch" Train to Drive up Home

Around 2:12, August 20, at 187 km of Kletsk – Rusina span, a resident of Minsk, being intoxicated, got under the wheels of the freight train Slutsk - Baranavichy - Lida. As told by an investigator of the Belarusian transport prosecutor's office in Baranavichy transport region, Leshik Arthur, the man tried to stop a train to drive up to the nearest settlement.

"The man got off the train six stops earlier and fell asleep. At night, the man woke up and was bewildered not knowing where to go. He went out on a railway track. When he saw the approaching train, he began hitching a ride: raised his hand, trying to stop the train to drive up home," BelaPAN quoted Arthur Leshik.

The train driver saw the man on the way, gave him sound signals and attempted to brake out of emergency, but the collision could not be avoided. The victim, with closed head injury, bruises of the head and left shoulder, was taken to Liahavichy central district hospital.

According to Arthur Leshik, a person, hitching a ride on the railroad, has got under a train for the first time in his practice.
