A good occasion to help homeless pets

International Homeless Animals’ Day was celebrated worldwide on August 16. The Day was initiated by the International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR, USA).

Today the problem of homeless pets is acute in Belarus. Annually, thousands of dogs and cats are trapped, and majority of them are euthanatized.

Neither a law on animal protection, nor any state programs for humane depletion in numbers of homeless pets exists in Belarus. There is no any state control of reproduction of pets belonging to private owners.

No events are held with a view to raising personal responsibility of pet owners, this is why many of unwanted pets are thrown into the streets.

To solve the problem, a set of measures is required, as well as full interaction between non-governmental organizations and state authorities. The population can also help to solve the problem, by making money transfer to the charitable account of ZooChance non-governmental organization for help to homeless pets (donations for veterinary treatment, castration/ sterilization of homeless pets with a view of distribution of them to new owners.

Bank details are available in the Russian version (for BYR donations).
