The Italian Foreign Ministry "has expressed strong concerns about Andrei Sannikov's 5-year jail term"

It was announced by the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Maurizio Massari. According to a statement issued by the ministry, his conviction is politically motivated and inconsistent with the European principles of the rule of law that are aimed at safeguarding the fundamental rights of each individual, which include the peaceful expression of their political opinions. Andrei Sannikov is the main opposition leader in Belarus and was a candidate in last December's presidential elections. Source
