Lukashenko calls Belarus a staunch advocate of the CIS

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Belarus is an enthusiastic member of the CIS and does its utmost to expand the organization and keep it going. The global trends contribute to the process, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev on 26 August, BelTA has learnt.

The meeting was held in the run-up to a regular session of the CIS Council of the Heads of State in Dushanbe scheduled for 3 September.

The Belarusian President thanked Sergei Lebedev for coming to Minsk to discuss the major issues included in the agenda of the session. Alexander Lukashenko informed that he is going to have a detailed discussion about the relations inside the CIS.

“You have visited many presidents of the CIS and you know their position. I would like you to tell me about it, about the issues emerging during the preparation for the session,” the Belarusian President said. He asked Sergei Lebedev if he has any questions regarding Belarus.

The Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee underlined that the preparation for the summit in Tajikistan is going on as scheduled without any issues. The agenda of the meeting consists of 11 major points. Sergei Lebedev emphasized the importance of Belarus’ unfailingly constructive stance regarding the relations with the other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
