MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko deems it necessary to set up more multi-industry production complexes in Belarus. The Belarusian leader made this statement as he heard out a report by Director General of the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ trademark) Anatoly Savenok on 15 July, BelTA has learnt.
At the start of the session the head of state underlined that the reports by major companies and associations have become regular in Belarus. “It is not just the Belarusian Steel Works located in Zhlobin, it is an association of four companies. Our economic strategy provided for resuming production at major enterprises, supporting and upgrading them and expanding and diversifying production using loss-making or neglected companies,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
In his words, the parent enterprise just like a locomotive lent a hand to loss-making companies. This led to the establishment of very big companies. According to the head of state, this practice should be expanded and improved. The President said that in many countries two major companies might shape the entire economic development.
“Therefore, we need to set up multi-industry associations, and that is what we have been doing for ten years so that these companies would pull the domestic economy,” the head of state emphasized. BMZ is a case in point.
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized, “We once supported big companies, like BelAZ, MAZ, Amkodor, BMZ. When they recovered and got upgraded, the demand for their products rose. They needed more manufacturing areas and we gave them loss-making companies, thus big companies were set up. I want to know how the process is going on now, how much they export, because our biggest issue – the lack of foreign currency – can be dealt with by export,” he said.
The parties also discussed export pricing and sales.
