The fifth international chess tournament Baku Open was played at AF Hotel in Novkhany yesterday.
Belarus Sergey Zhigalko had no losses after five rounds. He beat Cuba’s Lazaro Bruzon. Russia’s Eugeniy Romanov is second with 4.5 points. Bruzon is third with 4 points.
The best among ours are still the members of the national team of Azerbaijan Eltaj Safarli, Rauf Mammadov and Shahriyar Mammadyarov, who are sixth, 12th and 14th respectively. All three have 3.5 points each. In this round Eltaj and Shahriyar played a draw while Rauf concluded peace with Georgian Davit Magkhalashvili.
The prize fund of the tournament equals EUR 50,000. The winner gets EUR 10,000. The contest is held by the Swiss system in nine rounds and ends on 14 August.
