Russia, UK willing to develop brand for Minsk

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Russians have offered their assistance in designing a tourist brand for the Belarusian capital. The similar proposal had been earlier received from one of the British firms, BelTA learnt from Director of the Minsk Information and Tourist Center Elena Plis.

The experts are currently busy with preparing a feasibility study for the Minsk brand. It will help define a sum the Belarusian capital is ready to invest in its tourist brand development.

An educational seminar will be held for the heads of structural subdivisions of the Minsk City Hall in September to highlight the tourist style of the Belarusian capital. The prospects for developing a Minsk type will be also discussed at the international forum, Image of the Republic of Belarus: Positioning and Advancement of Cities and Regions, in autumn.

The brand will include an advertising slogan in a certain palette and printing type. The brand will be based on some well-known sight of the Belarusian capital. The final decision on the landmark will be taken after the relevant contest and the verdict of experts. The brand for the Belarusian capital will be developed and introduced ahead of the 2014 IIHF World Championships.

The experience of the neighboring states in the issue is quite valuable. Thus, Ukraine will embark €3 million for the development of a brand for its capital. All the works on brand design will be conducted by the German company GIZ. Riga brand cost Latvia €500,000. Moscow authorities are planning to put over $1 million into the development of a positive image of the Russian capital this year.
