Sri Lanka eager to invest in Belarus’ trade, manufacturing

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – New partner of the Belarusian Consumer Cooperatives Union (Belkoopsoyuz) from Sri Lanka is ready to invest in Belarusian trade, manufacturing, and education, BelTA learned from Belkoopsoyuz.

The development of trade was top on the agenda of the talks between representatives of the Belarusian Consumer Cooperatives Union and rector of the International University of Fundamental Studies (IUFS), head of the Intergovernmental Higher Academic Council (IHAC) and Ceylon Company Shanthi Jayasekera.

The parties discussed the possibility to open the Ceylon trading house in Belarus, organize exhibitions and set up joint import substituting companies. Belarus was offered to create a department at the Belarusian Trade and Economic University of Consumer Cooperation with the assistance of the International University of Fundamental Studies. This will promote the exchange of students between the Belarusian university and leading universities of the world.

Shanthi Jayasekera said: “For us Belarus’ Cooperatives Union is a reliable business partner and we are eager to establish mutually beneficial relations. I think our cooperation with Belkoopsoyuz will be sustainable and fruitful.”

At the meeting the parties signed a letter of intent which will be filled with practical solutions soon, according to head of Belkoopsoyuz Sergei Sidko.
