MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – The State Border Committee of Belarus together with its Lithuanian and Latvian counterparts is considering assigning an international status to some of the interstate border checkpoints on the shared part of the border, First Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Andrei Gorulko told reporters.
This move is necessitated by increasing traffic on this stretch of the border. In the past few years, the flow of traffic in this direction has increased by 10% annually.
Talking about small-scale local border traffic with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, Andrei Gorulko stated that Belarus is already working on these issues with its neighbors. “The decisions will be made in the near future,” he said. At the same time Andrei Gorulko stressed that the border service is not a decision-making body, it is an executor.
