V Bělorusku byl popraven jeden ze dvou mužů odsouzených k smrti za výbuch v minském metru, při kterém zemřelo patnáct lidí. Atentát ve stanici metra v centru města spáchali loni v dubnu pětadvacetiletí Dzmitryj Kanavalav a Uladzislav Kavaljov. Právě druhý jmenovaný byl popraven.

O smrti odsouzeného informovala média jeho sestra. Potvrdila, že o vykonání trestu je dopisem vyrozuměl běloruský Nejvyšší soud.

K zastřelení do týla mělo dojít už včera. Ve středu totiž běloruský prezident Alexandr Lukašenko odmítl omilostnit oba odsouzené muže. Podle Lukašenka byl jejich čin mimořádně nebezpečný.

O milost pro oba mladíky do poslední chvíle bojovali jejich příbuzní a také řada nevládních organizací. Tisíce lidí podepsaly petici proti trestu smrti.

Hned několik nezávislých právníků zpochybnilo soudní proces a důkazy usvědčující oba muže z atentátu. Ti se ale po velmi rychlém zatčení ke všemu přiznali. Údajně chtěli svým činem dosáhnout změny autoritářského režimu. Soud jim ale vyměřil ten nejpřísnější trest.

Bělorusko je jedinou evropskou zemí, kde nebyl trest smrti zrušen.
