March 20, international crossing points between Belarus and Lithuania couldn't cope with the increased workload - stranded hundreds of trucks crowded together again on exit from Belarus to Lithuania. According to the State Border Committee of Belarus, at 12:00, nearly 1.4 thousand trucks gathered on the border.
The longest queue is traditionally at the checkpoint "Kamenny Loh." About 800 trucks expect the departure from the country, 240 trucks - in "Katlouka," 200 trucks – in "Beniakoni" and about 150 trucks - "Pryvalka."
The embassy of Belarus in Lithuania reasons the situation by several factors. The increased load in "Kamenny Loh" was partially caused by the repair of "Hryhoraushchyna" as well as by the current restrictions on transport, introduced by the Ministry of Transport of Belarus at the checkpoint "Katlouka." In addition, the number of trucks on the border with Lithuania also increased due to the fact that Poland had introduced restrictions on the import of diesel fuel. So a lot of Ukrainian and Moldovan carriers have adjusted their routes, BelTA informs.
The Belarusian Embassy deems it necessary to open additional international crossing points. The Belarusian side has already appealed to the Lithuanian colleagues with this proposal. However, the issue is still up in the air.
