Belarus Criminal Police: Azarenok Used Illegal Bank Cards for "Kickback"

The Main Department for Combating Economic Crimes of the Criminal Police of MIA (MDCEС) revealed details of "grey" schemes, used by the former commander of the Air Force and Air Defense of Belarus, Igor Azarenok and his accomplice Andrei Mashkautsan. According MDCEС, "kickback" for the Russian company lobbying was listed on Igor Azarenok’s bank cards, registered under the names of others.

According to MDCEС, under the patronage of the former Major-General, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus and the Russian company signed a deal of almost RUB 32 million worth on June 21, 2010.

Once the payment for military equipment was carried out, the company manager ordered to "thank" the Belarusian partners. Igor Azarenok and his mediator Andrei Mashkautsanu got 10% of order value, which is more than $45 thousand. Igor Azarenok claimed 80%, while Andrei Mashkautsan - 20%.

As Telegraf previously reported, former commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Igor Azarenok was ]]> detained ]]> in December 2010 on suspicion of abuse of power. However, he was prosecuted under other articles - Part 3 of Article 430 (Bribe-taking on a large scale), Part 2 Article 295 (Unlawful acts against ammunition) of the Criminal Code of Belarus.

December 12, Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of Belarus issued its verdict and sentenced Igor Azarenok to nine years' imprisonment in a reinforced regime colony. In addition, the court ruled to confiscate all his property.

As for Azarenok’s accomplice, the court found Andrei Mashkautsan ]]> guilty ]]> of complicity in the crime, as well as of aiding and abetting in palming on especially large scale. He was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
