MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – In January 2012 agricultural companies of Belarus exported $187.6 million worth of goods, up 4.1% as against the same time last year, BelTA learnt from the main department for foreign economic activity of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus.
The main exports included dairy products (49.6% of the total), meat and meat products (41.8%), casein (2.5%), eggs (1.7%). In January Belarus increased shipments of beef (up 18%), poultry (up 2.1 times), sausages (2 times), canned meat (1.7 times), animal oil (3.8 times), curd (5.1%). At the same time there was registered a drop in the exports of skim milk powder (down 14%), full cream powder (6.4%), and pork (3 times).
Russia is the main foreign trade partner of the Belarusian agricultural companies. According to the National Statistics Committee, in January 2012 Russia imported $166.9 million worth of Belarusian agricultural produce. The Russian Federation accounted for 89% of Belarus’ total farm exports, down 3.2% from the previous January. In January 2012 Belarusian agricultural companies sold into 50 Russian regions (57 regions in January 2011).
The exports to the CIS, apart from Russia, increased 2.25 times from January 2011 to $14.1 million. The main agricultural exports to the CIS are dairy products (63.5% of the total) and meat products (31.9%).
The exports to the non-CIS totaled $6.5 million in January 2012 (83% as against the same time last year). Casein (72.4% of the total) and flax-fiber (14.9%) made up the bulk of the exports to the non-CIS.
This January Belarus sold its farm produce into 25 countries (27 countries in January 2011). The largest importers of the Belarusian agricultural products are Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine.
In all, in January 2012 the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus posted trade surplus of $141.6 million, up $3.2 million as against the same time a year ago. In January 2012 the import totaled $46 million (10.1% to January 2011).
