Belarus to leave intact dairy prices for Russia in 2012

MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – Belarus has taken on obligations not to lower benchmark prices for dairy products for the Russian market this year, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus.

Besides, in line with milk balances, the supplies of whole milk powder and whey powder from Belarus to Russia will be suspended starting from Q2. The supplies will be resumed on mutual consent.

The Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus, the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the National Union of Milk Producers of the Russian Federation have agreed to hold videoconferences once in two weeks to coordinate recommended benchmark prices for the Russian market, and present reports on the Union State performance of demand/supply projections regarding milk and dairy products for 2012. If necessary, appropriate measures will be taken regarding other products, especially butter. The Russian side will submit proposals to the Eurasian Economic Commission for tariff protection of separate types of dairy products.

Agreements were reached during the consultations between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus, the Agriculture Ministry of Russia and the National Union of Milk Producers of Russia (Soyuzmoloko).

“We understand that in order to build a unified stable dairy market in the Customs Union we need to agree with all participating countries, take into account their special features and needs,” the press service quoted Agriculture Minister of Belarus Mikhail Rusy as saying.
