Nagroda im. Giedroycia za książkę prozatorską lub eseistyczną, wydaną w postaci drukowanej lub elektronicznej, zostanie przyznana po raz pierwszy. Ustanowiły ją ambasada Polski oraz Instytut Polski w Mińsku, Białoruski PEN-Centr i Związek Pisarzy Białoruskich. Zwycięzca zostanie ogłoszony 3 marca, w Międzynarodowy Dzień Pisarza.

Jak powiedziała Szczepańska-Dąbrowska, planuje się, że laureat pierwszego miejsca dostanie nagrodę finansową. "Co do pozostałych, trwają konsultacje. Chcemy, żeby nagrodą było opublikowanie przetłumaczonej książki na polskim rynku wydawniczym oraz pobyt studyjny dla pisarza w Polsce" - dodała.

Wśród dwunastu pozycji mających szansę na nominację są m.in. książka ]]> muzyka ]]> rockowego Lawona Wolskiego "Miłaruś", powieść malarza i pisarza Artura Klinaua "Szalom", rozgrywająca się na Białorusi, w Berlinie i ]]> Warszawie ]]> , oraz książka szefa białoruskiej sekcji Radia Swaboda Alaksandra Łukaszuka o mińskich śladach zabójcy prezydenta ]]> USA ]]> Johna F. Kennedy'ego, Lee Harveya Oswalda.

W jury nagrody zasiadają m.in. dyrektor Instytutu Polskiego w Mińsku Piotr Kozakiewicz, ambasador Polski na Białorusi Leszek Szerepka, prezes polskiego Pen Clubu Adam Pomorski, prezes Białoruskiego PEN-Centru poeta Andrej Chadanowicz oraz wybitni przedstawiciele białoruskiej literatury i krytyki, m.in. pisarz Uładzimir Arłou.

Jak powiedział PAP Kozakiewicz, nagroda im. Giedroycia była przyznawana na Białorusi już od 10 lat, początkowo za materiały prasowe o sprawach polskich, a potem za nowe idee w dialogu polsko-białoruskim. "Teraz postanowiliśmy zmienić jej formułę. (...) To była inicjatywa ambasady i ambasadora" - powiedział.

"Obserwowaliśmy z dużą przykrością schyłkowość materiałów (prasowych), które przychodziły do nas. Nie były one aż tak dobre, żeby było z czego wybierać" - uzasadnił Kozakiewicz zmianę formuły nagrody.
