"Dziś przyszła poczta i jeden list podziałał na mnie kojąco. Bo autorem jest Vaclav Havel. List został napisany po czesku, z jego podpisem i jego +firmowym+ serduszkiem, które zawsze rysuje przy podpisie. Dodano tłumaczenie po białorusku. List jest z 15 grudnia 2011 r." - napisał Bialacki 6 stycznia w kolonii karnej w liście, cytowanym przez "Wiasnę".

Szef "Wiasny" pisze, że list Havla bardzo go poruszył, bo wiedział z telewizji o jego śmierci. Wspomina też dwa spotkania z Havlem, w 2005 i 2006 r. - to drugie z okazji wręczenia Bialackiemu przez Havla nagrody "Homo Homini".

"To wręczenie było dla mnie dużym przeżyciem, bo uważam Vaclava Havla za swojego duchowego mistrza, chociaż nigdy nie byliśmy bliskimi znajomymi" - wyznał Bialacki.

"Szanowałem go i szanuję za autentyczną, niekoniunkturalną solidarność z siłami demokratycznymi i białoruskim narodem. Podczas spotkania czułem po prostu, że jesteśmy duchowo jednej krwi" - dodał Bialacki, podkreślając, że list Havla jest najcenniejszą rzeczą, jaką w tej chwili ma.

W dzień śmierci Havla 18 grudnia 2011 r. Radio Swaboda opublikowało jego życzenia dla białoruskich więźniów politycznych, podkreślając, że jest to prawdopodobnie ostatni napisany przez niego tekst.

Tłumacząc okoliczności powstania listu, szef białoruskiej sekcji Radia Swaboda Alaksandr Łukaszuk poinformował, że przed rocznicą zdławienia demonstracji po wyborach prezydenckich na Białorusi z 19 grudnia 2010 r. zwrócił się do Havla, by złożył życzenia noworoczne białoruskim więźniom politycznym i odczytał je w eterze lub nagrał na ]]> wideo ]]> . Kancelaria Havla poinformowała, że były prezydent czuje się bardzo źle, wobec czego raczej nie zdoła przeczytać listu, ale go napisze.

"Drodzy przyjaciele! (...) Solidaryzuję się z wami i będę nadal wykorzystywać wszelkie możliwości, aby wraz ze wszystkimi przyjaciółmi zwracać uwagę społeczności międzynarodowej na łamanie praw obywatelskich na Białorusi" - napisał Havel. Swój list zakończył słowami: "Życzę wam wszystkiego dobrego, a waszemu krajowi wolności".

List Havla miało dostać 8 osób, w tym dwaj byli kandydaci na prezydenta Białorusi w ubiegłorocznych wyborach Andrej Sannikau i Mikoła Statkiewicz, odbywający kary 5 i 6 lat pozbawienia wolności, oraz właśnie Bialacki.

Bialacki został 24 listopada skazany na 4,5 roku kolonii karnej o zaostrzonym rygorze wraz z konfiskatą mienia. Sąd uznał, że nie zapłacił on podatków od kwot przechowywanych na kontach bankowych w Polsce i na Litwie. Bialacki nie przyznał się w sądzie do winy, argumentując, że pieniądze nie były jego dochodem, tylko zostały przekazane przez zagraniczne fundacje na działalność w sferze obrony praw człowieka. Ocenił, że wyrok ma motywy polityczne, ponieważ "Wiasna" pomagała na Białorusi osobom represjonowanym z przyczyn politycznych.
