MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – China will keep supporting the development path chosen by Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Gong Jianwei told BelTA. Belarus and China are marking the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
“China will keep respecting Belarus’ development path that seeks to promote the interests of the country. China supports Belarus’ efforts to protect the national sovereignty, maintain social stability and boost economic growth,” the new ambassador underlined. He specified that changes in the international situation will not be able to shake this position.
The ambassador reminded that 20 years ago, on 20 January 1992, the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Belarus established diplomatic relations. According to the diplomat, this heralded a new era of friendly relations between the two countries. Gong Jianwei said that China values traditions of friendship with the Republic of Belarus and appreciates Belarus’ firm support of the national interests of China.
“Over 20 years Belarus-China relations withstood serious tests caused by the changing international environment. Mutual high-level visits are becoming more frequent; political trust is getting stronger,” the diplomat said. He emphasized that the both parties understand and strongly support each under while making decisions of the mutual interest; they cooperate on the international arena and make a decent contribution to the peaceful development of regions and the world in general.
In 2005 China’s leader Hu Jintao and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made a joint statement declaring that Belarus and China are entering a new stage of comprehensive and strategic cooperation, which gave a new impetus to close cooperation in many areas, the Chinese ambassador said.
