EurAsEC measures to counter external economic pressure

MOSCOW, 19 March (BelTA) – The board of the Eurasian Economic Commission will work out measures to counteract external economic pressure on member states of the Single Economic Space, Vice Premier of Belarus Sergei Rumas told media on 19 March.

The official said the Belarusian head of state thanked his counterparts for relevant joint statements made by the presidents and the heads of government at the session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council on 19 March.

In line with the resolution of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council the board will work in this direction, taking concrete measures. The governments will hold consultations about it and will submit certain steps for consideration of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council, said the Vice Premier.

Asked whether the partners in the G3 are ready to take practical steps apart from moral support, Sergei Rumas said: “Certainly, all the sides unambiguously have expressed their concern and share the view that no state or a group of states should put economic pressure on a Single Economic Space member state”. “Taking into account the fact these are new procedures, the council has instructed to work out these measures and the board will get down to concrete steps to counteract economic pressure,” the Vice Premier specified.

Asked whether the Belarusian government calculates possible risks and consequences the possible introduction of economic sanctions by the European Union may bring about, Sergei Rumas said: “Naturally risks are always assessed and our government is not an exception. But I think it is not public information as well as information about the measures our state can take”.
