President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has appointed Igor Shunevich First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - chief of the criminal police. He’ll take over Oleg Pekarski, who was dismissed by the head of state on January 16. "I think the experience that you acquired in the KGB, is very useful to you," the president said, addressing to Igor Shunevich.

"Generally, you’re a professional specialist of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, you have served in all positions in the Ministry, you know it from the inside, you also know how to conduct investigation - it is also very important to us. But the main thing is that the KGB work (lately you've been engaged in control of the law enforcement agencies) has given you a chance to see all the problems of the Ministry of Internal Affairs from inside," said the President, ]]> BelTA ]]> informs.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that Igor Shunevic should get ready for the implementation of more serious problems. "The main thing is responsibility for the taken decisions," he said.

"I advise you to show from the first day that you are not just a KGB employee, who’s just come to the Interior Ministry, as some scribblers enjoy speculating on the alleged fight between the KGB and the Interior Ministry. I must admit that both the KGB that the Interior Ministry are the two structures that work for the state. But coming there, you should make it clear that you’re a specialist, knowing this structure from inside," said the president.

As Telegraf previously reported, January 16, Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree, dismissing First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - chief of criminal police, Colonel Oleg Pekarski. The deputy head of the Interior Ministry was removed from office due to "misconduct, defamatory of the police officer rank."

December 17, 2011, an unregistered organization "Right Alliance" informed about the upcoming resignation of Oleg Pekarski. "According to the available information, first deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - chief of criminal police, Colonel of militia A. Pekarski and Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs - chief of the preliminary investigation, Major General of militia S. Gureev have recently submitted resignation," reads the statement.

"The head of the Interior Ministry himself is hospitalized in serious condition. According to the unconfirmed reports, gastric cancer in an inoperable stage has been found. Prognoses for Kuleshov are disappointing. Presumably, the Interior Ministry will be headed by a representative of the State Border Committee or the KGB," noted in the organization.
