MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) - The IMF is ready to support a program of structural reforms in Belarus. The statement was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich and Chief of the IMF mission in Belarus Chris Jarvis on 5 March.
The IMF commended the measures undertaken in Belarus to stabilize the economy: major macroeconomic imbalances were eliminated; the groundwork for sustainable development was laid down. The talks focused on further structural reforms as one of the main conditions for the new loan program. The sides discussed the macroeconomic policy in Belarus in view of possible risks associated with the global economic dynamics. The sides noted that balanced development coupled with the growth in labor productivity, creation of new jobs should be one of the main sources of economic growth for Belarus.
The IMF is prepared to support a program of structural reforms in Belarus. The IMF mission will travel regularly to the country to continue working out technical issues and approaches for a new program of cooperation. The Belarusian Government intends to work constructively with the IMF.
The IMF praised the prospects for cooperation with Belarus. It was noted that the partnership will not be hampered by the lack of IMF permanent representative in Belarus. The departure of the representative was not a political measure, but was due to the optimization of financing IMF missions.
