La tension monte entre l'Union européenne et la Biélorussie, alors que l'UE a adopté mardi 28 février de nouvelles sanctions contre Minsk. La France a rappelé en consultation son ambassadeur en Biélorussie, après la décision de Minsk de renvoyer les ambassadeurs de l'UE et de Pologne, a annoncé mardi soir le ministère des affaires étrangères français.

"Avec ses partenaires européens, la France s'élève contre la décision de la Biélorussie de renvoyer l'ambassadeur de Pologne et le représentant de l'UE à Minsk, a déclaré dans un communiqué le porte-parole du Quai d'Orsay, Bernard Valero. Avec ses partenaires européens, la France continuera de dénoncer la dégradation des droits de l'homme et des libertés fondamentales dans ce pays, et d'agir contre la répression dirigée contre les opposants au régime de Minsk."

Auparavant, Berlin avait annoncé le rappel pour consultation de son ambassadeur. "Je pars du principe que d'autres capitales feront de même. C'est une question de solidarité européenne", avait déclaré le ministre des affaires étrangères allemand, Guido Westerwelle.

"ACTE HOSTILE"

La Biélorussie a également rappelé ses ambassadeurs auprès de l'UE et en Pologne. Une décision qualifiée d'"acte hostile" par le Parlement européen.

L'UE a décidé mardi de nouvelles sanctions en gelant les avoirs et en privant de visa en Europe 19 magistrats et deux responsables de la police biélorusse, considérés comme responsables de l'arrestation et de la condamnation d'opposants au régime.

Le pays est la cible de sanctions occidentales en raison des arrestations d'opposants qui se sont multipliées depuis la réélection d'Alexandre Loukachenko à la présidence en 2010 avec plus de 80 % des voix, à l'issue d'un scrutin marqué par d'importantes irrégularités selon les observateurs.
