Belarusian Insurance Companies Yielded $36 Million in January

In January 2012, the existing insurance companies of Belarus received Br295.3 billion of insurance premiums for direct insurance and coinsurance (about $36 million). The income increase amounted to Br171.2 billion, or 138% at current prices compared to January 2011. This was reported in the Ministry of Finance of Belarus.

Voluntary insurance made up Br141.9 billion of insurance premiums in January 2012, which is 81.4 billion more over the same period last year.

As for compulsory insurance in January 2012, the amount of insurance premiums reached Br153.4 billion, which is Br89.8 billion more than in January 2011.

The share of voluntary insurance in the total amount of revenues is 48.1% (in January 2011 - 48.8%).

In January 2012, insurance reimbursement and insurance coverage for the whole Belarus amounted to Br143.8 billion (Br77.8 billion more than in January 2011). The level of insurance payments in the total amount of premiums, received in January 2012, equaled 48.7% (for the same period in 2011 - 53.1%).

In January 2012, insurance companies transferred Br32.6 billion to the budget and extrabudgetary funds (January 2011 - Br11.5 billion). Of those, Br17.8 billion made up taxes and nontax payments to the budget, while Br14.8 billion - payments to non-budgetary funds (Br4.4 billion and Br7.1 billion, respectively, in January 2011).

According to the Ministry of Finance of Belarus, the average number of full-time employees of insurance companies amounted to 9.036 thousand people at the beginning of January 2012. On January 1, 2011, 8820 people were involved in work of insurance companies in the country.
