S Korean law firm shows interest in investment opportunities in Belarus

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – The National Agency for Investment and Privatization (NAIP) and Daeryook & Aju International Law Firm signed a memorandum of understanding in Seoul, BelTA learnt from the NAIP.

The parties agreed to consult and exchange information with a view to exploring the possibilities of attracting foreign direct investments in Belarus.

Daeryook & Aju is one of the ten largest law firms in South Korea. One of its priorities is to provide legal support for overseas expansion of Korean business. Experts of the company have extensive experience in transactions involving Korean joint venture capital, project finance, energy projects. The company is headquartered in Seoul and also operates representative offices in the European Union, China, Russia and the United States.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding took place during the CIS-Korea business forum dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and the CIS countries. It was attended by more than 200 representatives of Korean companies. The Belarusian side was represented by the Director of the National Agency for Investment and Privatization Dmitry Klevzhits. Dmitry Klevzhits presented Belarus’ investment potential and held talks with Deputy Minister of Intellectual Economy of Korea Jae-do Moon, Vice President of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Soonyong Hong and Korean businessmen. The Belarusian delegation discussed prospects of investment cooperation with Korean companies in such areas as transport infrastructure, petrochemistry, mechanic engineering, pharmaceutics and medicine.

The National Agency for Investment and Privatization was founded under Decree No273 of 25 May 2010. In line with Decree No173 of 22 April 2011 the agency was reorganized into a state organization subordinate to the Economy Ministry. The main mission of the agency is promotion of foreign direct investment. The main task is to implement government policy in investment and privatization, develop and implement activities to enhance the investment image of the country, maintain interaction with government bodies, executive committees and investors, create and maintain a unified database, including a register of projects with foreign direct investment.
